The first command will ask for your password. Then open a terminal window and enter the commands below to install CPUBurn, install and run a temperature sensor and start the test, in this case on a four-core AMD CPU. To start a test, first open Ubuntu's “System Monitor” application to watch the CPU usage. Run one test instance for each thread or core of the CPU. The “BurnP6” and “BurnK7” tests are for later models of Intel and AMD CPUs, respectively. CPUBurn does this with a selection of tests that are specific to the type of CPU. The best way to test the reliability of your CPU is to run it under a full load for a certain amount of time.
